The Putnam County Board of Commissioners and Sheriff’s Office recognized an agency deputy Tuesday who saved the life of a three-week-old baby in November.
In November, Deputy Hunter Jones saved little Calvin Miller, who attended Tuesday’s meeting with his family and slept soundly through the ceremony. According to the sheriff’s office, Jones responded to the baby on Nov. 4 and found he was in cardiac arrest. The agency said Jones performed CPR on the baby who briefly regained consciousness but then became unconscious again.
Emergency responders transported Miller to UF Health in Gainesville, where he remained for “an extended period of time,” according to the sheriff’s office, but Miller’s family did not think he would be alive today without Jones’ quick response.
For that, Jones received a life-saving medal Tuesday from Sheriff Gator DeLoach and a plaque from Miller’s family as a token of their appreciation.
"Don't let anyone say you can't make a difference," DeLoach stated Tuesday. "The actions of Deputy Jones made all the difference in the world for this child and his family."
