A Palatka man has entered the race to take over a constitutional seat the current officeholder has held for more than 10 years.

Clay Adam Davis filed last week to enter the race to become Putnam County’s property appraiser, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office.

As of Tuesday evening, Davis is the only person in the running for that position, according to the Elections Office website.

Records show Davis is running as a Republican. If he is still the only property appraiser candidate when qualifying ends in June 2024, he will automatically win the election. If there are only Republicans running, the contest will be a universal primary, where all registered voters can cast a ballot, and the next property appraiser will be chosen at the end of the primary.

If candidates who aren’t Republican qualify to run, the winner will be chosen in the general election, which will be Nov. 5, 2024.

Tim Parker, who has served as the county’s property appraiser since 2009, said Tuesday he would not be seeking reelection.
