Authorities are still investigating a crash Sunday that left a man dead at the intersection of two major roadways.

A motorcycle hit an SUV at 3:47 p.m. at the intersection of State Roads 19 and 20, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

The motorcycle driver, a 52-year-old man from Ponte Vedra Beach, died as a result of the collision, according to the agency. The press release stated he had been wearing a helmet and his family had been notified of the crash.

The motorcycle traveling eastbound on S.R. 20 was approaching the S.R. 19 intersection Sunday afternoon, FHP reported. The SUV had been traveling westbound on State Road 20 as it approached the intersection, authorities reported.

The motorcycle was driving through the intersection as the SUV was making a left-hand turn resulting in the front end of the motorcycle striking the passenger side of the SUV.

A 24-year-old man from Tampa, who had been driving the SUV, and his passenger, a 26-year-old woman from Lutz, received minor injuries, investigators said. The report did not state if the people in the SUV had been wearing seatbelts.

“The traffic crash is still pending further investigation,” FHP stated.
