A 35-year-old man from Satsuma is reported to have died in a motorcycle crash in East Palatka early Saturday.

According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers say a motorcycle was traveling southbound in the outside lane of Highway 17, south of State Road 207 in East Palatka when the crash occurred around 1:20 a.m.

The release states the driver lost control of the motorcycle and went off the road onto the shoulder of U.S. 17 where his bike "overturned several times" and the motorcyclist was ejected off the vehicle. The motorcycle was found "split in two" after coming to rest in a wooded area, FHP states, and the driver was also found in a wooded area.

FHP stated that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and it was unclear whether the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol did not release the name of the person who was killed.
