Lee Hall is a nursing assistant student at St. Johns River State College. He can often be found in SJR State’s state-of-the-art nursing classroom where the courses include hands-on instruction. Upon successful completion of the program, he will be eligible to take the national nursing assistant examination.

Q: What inspired your interest in the nursing assistant program?

Hall: “My interest is in helping people. I like to see people smiling, and I love to know I’m the reason why. You never know how one simple conversation could change somebody’s day.”

Q: Why did you select SJR State for your training?

Hall: “This is my hometown; this is where my heart is! I want to make a difference in my community and show everybody that no matter where you’re from or your culture, you can do anything you put your mind to.”

Q: What do you like most about your training?

Hall: “Seeing the different cultures and being able to talk to different people and learn where they come from and about their lives.”

Q: What do you find most challenging about the program?

Hall: “It’s a lot of work, but if you’re committed to your job and what you love to do, there isn’t anything that can stop you.”

Q: What advice would you give to those considering the program?

Hall: “Be dedicated and remain humble. There is no telling how far you could be in three to five years. Don’t let anybody tell you that you can or can’t do something, because whether you believe them or not, you are right.”

Q: What are your future education/career plans?

Hall: “My career plans are far beyond the CNA role. I want to become a pediatrician. Children are the next generation, and they have to see great to be great. I want to be the doctor who parents request to care for their kids. When they come to the doctor’s office, my goal in life is to let kids know there is always another way – don’t become another statistic!”

Q: Is there any other information you’d like to share?

Hall: “I would like to give thanks to everybody who has helped me along my journey. It is far from over, and I promise that all the nights and days, the tears and pain, will pay off. A plan without action is just a dream. Be great!”

Applications for the nursing assistant program are available through Thursday. Classes begin in January. For more information on the program or SJR State, visit SJRstate.edu.
