Putnam County’s deputy tax collector has announced her candidacy in the hopes of leading the department.

Brenda Bridges entered the 2024 election cycle last week when she filed her campaign paperwork to run for tax collector, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office. As of Tuesday evening, Bridges, who is running as a Republican, is the only candidate for the job.

Bridges is trying to replace Republican Linda Myers, who was first elected to lead the Tax Collector’s Office in 2012 and is serving the last year of her third term.

If there are no other candidates in the running by the time qualifying ends in June, Bridges will automatically win the election.

If there are only two candidates for the job and both are Republican, the race will be decided in the Aug. 20 primary. If there are numerous candidates and they are in different parties, the race will be decided in the Nov. 5 general election.
