A second candidate has entered this year’s election cycle to become Putnam County’s tax collector.

According to the Supervisor of Elections Office, Republican Sydney Myers submitted her candidacy paperwork last month. Myers will be facing off against fellow Republican Brenda Bridges, who currently serves as the deputy tax collector.

The two are competing to succeed Tax Collector Linda Myers, who was elected to the position in 2012 and won reelection campaigns in 2016 and 2020. She has not filed for reelection.

If Sydney Myers and Bridges are the only two tax collector candidates after qualifying ends in June, they will compete in the Aug. 20 primary, where all voters will decide the winner.

If Democrat, no party affiliation or write-in candidates qualify, only Republicans will vote in the primary contest between Sydney Myers, Bridges and any other Republican candidates, with the winner competing against other candidates in the Nov. 5 general election.
