Construction workers and Palatka Public Works employees carried out work on the boardwalk below Memorial Bridge on Tuesday.

The boardwalk, which allows people to cross the bridge by walking under it, was still blocked off Tuesday morning, but wooden planks were at the worksite.

Pieces of wooden planks on the boardwalk are missing or partially ripped, according to photos from the city.

The parking lot adjacent to the boardwalk had not been closed off by Tuesday morning but officials said last week that could be a possibility in the future. The work is estimated to take five weeks, Public Information Officer Peter Willott said.

He said the work could take longer if there are weather or other setbacks. Rain is in the forecast for at least the next 10 days, according to The Weather Channel.

Temperatures on Tuesday reached a high of 92 degrees and upcoming days could see heat between 86 and 91 degrees, the organization forecasted.
