Harold Lawton Smith, 84, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Palatka Rehab following an extended illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Fruitland. Harold retired from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill following 42 years of service as a tow motor operator. He was a member and had served as President of the UPI (United Paper Workers International). Harold was also a member of Lake Lodge #72 F& AM  and the Putnam County Shrine Club, as well as a member of the Fern Growers Association. In his leisure time, Harold loved fishing and always enjoyed good conversation with family and friends. He could often be found on the CB Radio under the handle of “River Runner 38”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Minnie Smith; and his siblings, Lloyd Smith, Lawson Smith, Clinton Smith, Howell Smith, Ronald Smith, Catherine Sessions and Matrid Spence.

Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Smith of Georgetown; a son, Harold L. “Rowdy” Smith Jr. (Lisa) of Crescent City; grandson, Micheal Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Services celebrating Harold’s life will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Crescent City with C.L. Overturf Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Georgetown Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from noon until the time of services at 1 p.m.
